Am I a good candidate?

It is essential if you are interested in treatment that you make an appointment for a free consultation in order for us to make an assessment as to whether you will be a good candidate for treatment and to discuss the treatment plan with you.

You will not be suitable for treatment if:

You have a dark skin colour (darker that Fitzpatrick 4), sun tanned on the area to be treated, have used a sun bed within the last month, or have used a fake tan in the last 2 weeks.

• The hair to be treated is fair, blonde, grey or white hair.
• You are under the age of 16
• You have had an epileptic seizure in the last 2 years.
• There may be some other medical conditions that mean you cannot be treated. The laser therapist will discuss these with you at the consultation.

How does it work?

IPL ( Intense Pulsed Light) is a gentle, safe and non- invasive solution to remove unwanted hair on the abdomen, back and other body areas. IPL uses the concept of selective photo thermolysis to eliminate unwanted hair and its potential for re growth without damaging the surrounding skin.

During treatment the laser emits a high intensity light that is being absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This absorption raises the temperature of the hair follicle and thermally disrupts the cells in the follicle responsible for re growth.

Hair grows in different growth stages and the hair follicles can only be destroyed when the hair is in the active growth stage (then the hair is present all the way down the follicle and attached to the root). Therefore you will need to complete a series of treatments to ensure all the hairs have been captured in their active growing cycle. This may vary according to individual response, but on average a series of 6-8 treatments will be required. (5-7 weeks apart) As the process is designed to reduce the density of the hair growth, you will see the hair reduced after every treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment does not destroy one hair follicle at a time. It treats a whole area every time the laser emits a light beam. Therefore the treatments are fast, gentle and effective.

Following treatment

After your treatment you can return to your normal activities immediately. It is advised however that you do not do any strenuous exercise which will cause you to perspire for the first 24 hours.
